Quote from Mary Porter Thomas about the Richard's grandparents . " About the Richards---I remember alot about them. They had a cat who played hide and seek with us and that really impressed the kids. My grandmother cooked a lot and always left a lot of frosting to lick. She said that Santa could get in easy even if there was a fire in the fireplace because the door wasn't locked--but it was and she did unlock it but I knew she was going to lock it again when I went to bed. There were great things in the morning so I decided that I was wrong. She's the one who told me the coal man would get me if I didn't eat my crust. No it was the crust man but when the coal man came I was sure it was the end. I hid behind the coach and my grandmother explained the coal man and didn't reassure me enough that I ever left a crust again until I got false teeth. Grandfather Richards drove wagons and sleighs through the woods and usually took us along. Showed us where he had found the clover honey that we had for breakfast. Hauled in wood to burn or visited the neighbors or just for a ride. They were always written up as Church going people but if they went that winter they didn't take us. We were there for three or four months when I was four. My mother always said that the only spanking she ever got was when she sassed her mother. Her sisters complained about their father for telling our mother how pretty she was and they thought she was impossible enough without that." [John Robb.GED.FTW]1
