BIRTH: Since Ann was born on the 23rd of Dec, her registration would in all probability be in 1843. The best match in terms of location out of the 6 Ann Bates registered in 1843 are the 3 registered in Apr-Jun (none in Jan-Mar) and out of them Dartford, Kent is the closest to London, the others being Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire and Newcastle Up Tyne, Northumberland. There are some Mary Ann Bates which look better bets in terms of location and year, but it's not known if Ann was known by her middle name or not.
DEATH: Death is not possible to tie down. It would be after 1861 but since Ann's movements are not known and there aren't any deaths recorded for Ann Bates in Hertfordshire with birth dates around 1842/43 it's difficult to pinpoint. A likely one is1908 in Greenwich but this one's birth is registered in 1841, when 1843 would be a better bet. The only choices based on 1843/42 as the birth year give 1872 in Oldham, 1893 in Leicester, 1878 in Leicester, 1881 in Amersham, 1902 in Madeley, and 1909 in Burton Upon Trent.
