NOTES: http://www.e-familytree.net/F245/F245394.htm notes William Axtell as being John Axstyl's son, and puts his birth between 1541 and 1587.

 

NOTES: William might have married a Dorothy Symonds (b.1543-1568). A John or William or John (William) seems have married a Dorothy. Though the birth dates for John and William are different with John being 1561 and WIlliam being 1541. 1561 soundsa better bet with William Axtell father being 26 when he was born which is about right for the time which leads it to be John Axtell as William's father.

 

NOTES: "One of William's ancestors was apparently an Augustinian monk, Johannes Axstyl, who, with the other monks at Gatesden, deeded over their monastery to the English King when Henry VIII broke with the Catholic Church. Johannes apparently changed his name to John Axtell and had a family. " - Source: Silas B. Axtell describes this connection in a 1952 speech he gave at a family reunion, The Axtell Heritage <axsilasb.html>. He also speculates about a possible connection back to 1327. The speech (in the Conclusion) says that the monk was William's father, but the dates are too spread out for that scenario to be reasonable.
